A personal blog, named in honor of the novel Petticoat Government by a favorite author, Emma Orczy. The novel is about a fictional woman, Lydie d'Aumont, who attempts to inject some fairness and good governance into the court of France's Louis XVth despite the corruption and selfishness there.

"Most Unusual Chili"
We went to a chili cookoff tonight. Very filling! I decided to try a different kind of recipe. As I like curry these days, I located a curry chili recipe on the internet. It was "Indo-texan Curry Chili" from epicurious.com. I made a few substitutions (lime leaves instead of lemon peel, Patak's red curry paste in place of the cumin, coriander, and curry powder) and added a can of kidney beans. It was fairly mild and quite yummy. I even won an award for having the most unusual chili. (Truthfully, there was a Thai chili that was even more unusual than mine.) I wonder what kind of twist I can do on chili next time...right now I'm thinking of "Borscht Chili"....
